City of Fairfax Trails Day
The City of Fairfax presents the 3rd Annual Fairfax Trails Day event on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Van Dyck Park. There will be an exciting morning of events starting at Daniels Run Park. There you can participate in the Fit Families Run Festival, a 1-mile Fun Run 8:00 a.m., and 5K Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m.
Then back at Van Dyck Park the Trails Day event ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m., followed by a walk around the park with Scouting and 4-H exhibits, and a Family Fun Bike Ride at 10:30 a.m. Additional events include an introduction to Geocaching -- a fun way to hunt and discover new places, The Bike Museum with a unique exhibition of bicycles through the ages, and local vendors exhibiting relevant outdoor products and services.
Now in its 15th year, National Trails Day has grown to inspire nearly a million trail enthusiasts to flock to their favorite trails to discover, learn about and celebrate trails while participating in educational exhibits, trail dedications, gear demonstrations, instructional workshops and trail work projects. National Trails Day is a celebration of trails that evolved from the report of President Ronald Reagan's President's Commission on Americans Outdoors. The report recommended that all Americans be able to go out their front doors and within fifteen minutes, be on trails that wind through their cities, towns or villages and bring them back without retracing steps.
The City of Fairfax celebrates over 22 miles of walking, cycling and running trails extending throughout the city.
More details will be posted soon.
